Wade Hills Hess Collection Winery

The Hess Collection, founded by Swiss entrepreneur and renowned contemporary art collector Donald Hess, was established in 1978. In order to produce the truly New World wine he envisioned, Mr. Hess built his winery on the volcanic slopes of Mount Veeder in Napa Valley and defined a new winemaking method. In 1983, wine produced under the name of The Hess Collection was officially released. Hess Select Winery uses organic farming methods to manage its vineyards and irrigates them with green organic fertilizers. In order to prevent diseases and other pests, the winery also takes preventive measures using pure natural substances or natural struggle methods. In addition, the winery uses mechanical or manual methods for weed control. The representative work of this winery, The Hess Collection Allomi Cabernet Sauvignon, is a fine wine from a selected vineyard in Napa Valley. It is a masterpiece carefully selected by winemakers based on soil, terrain, and microclimate. The name of this wine is also named after the vineyard, faithfully reflecting the local characteristics. This Cabernet Sauvignon is aged for up to 18 months in 40% French new oak barrels, presenting rich flavors of plum, black licorice, cedar, black currant, and toasted bread. The taste is full-bodied and structured, with soft tannins. Widely regarded as one of the most famous wine regions in California, the AVA of Howell Mountain is located in the southwestern hills of Napa Valley. Howell Mountain is situated 5 miles (8 kilometers) northwest of Sonoma town, halfway between Napa town and equidistant from two of the most important valleys in the United States. The AVA has gained worldwide acclaim for its Cabernet Sauvignon wines, attracting interest and investment from numerous established wineries and newer boutique producers. Mount Veeder's high altitude and sunny terroir have been proven to be very suitable for producing high-quality wines, although its rugged slopes have been proven to be difficult to plant grapes. Here, warm days and chilly winds in the afternoon bring mild overall temperatures and a long growing season. Mount Veeder is located far enough south to still feel the influence of nearby San Pablo Bay, although its higher altitude means it is not as cool as the southern Carneros. The mild climate is believed to bring fresh acidity and good tannins to Mount Veeder wines, and the longer growing season means this is never at the expense of ripeness. Wade Mountain's vineyards are planted on the remnants of ancient seabeds, which were pushed into the mountains by tectonic movements. These soils and steep slopes allow for free planting, providing the terroir environment that vine plants must struggle to survive in. This results in low-yield, highly concentrated grapes produced by the vines. However, this terrain - no matter how good it is for grapevines - makes planting and harvesting difficult, and only a small portion of Wade Mountain's total area is planted with grapevines.
