Visit Ming Tan Reservoir & Ming Tan Power Plant

When you visit Checheng Village, you must see the beautiful Ming Tan Reservoir and tour Taiwan's largest hydroelectric project, the Ming Tan Power Plant. Ming Tan Reservoir is located in the valley of Shuili River, at the border of Shuili Township and Yuchi Township. It is an artificial lake created by building a dam in the valley to store the tailwater from Sun Moon Lake's power generation. Ming Tan Power Plant (Ming Tan Pumped Storage Power Plant) is the second pumped storage power project in Taiwan. It uses Sun Moon Lake as the upper reservoir and Ming Tan Reservoir as the lower lake. The reservoir was created to implement the concept of environmental protection♻️ and is an artificial lake built for hydroelectric power generation. By utilizing the height difference between the upper and lower lakes for pumped storage power generation, this method not only allows for self-adjustment of power supply during peak and off-peak hours but is also pollution-free and beneficial to nature.
