Ancient Cave Valley "Gangala no Tani" in Okinawa Main Island

Located in Nanjo City in the southern part of Okinawa Main Island, "Gangala no Tani" is a valley formed by the collapse of ancient caves. This site holds traces of ancient human life, offering archaeological significance alongside its rich natural surroundings. Once cherished as a natural park, it fell into obscurity but has recently been rediscovered and redeveloped. Today, visitors can enjoy guided tours to explore its wonders. The entrance features a cave café that can be accessed without an admission fee, but entry into the valley requires participation in a guided tour (reservation required). Highlights include viewing the excavation site of ancient humans known as "Minatogawa Man," exploring traditional Ryukyu power spots, stalactite caves, and the centerpiece—a massive banyan tree known as the "Mother Tree," considered the sage of the forest.
