Thao Suranaree (Ya Mo) Monument, the gateway to the northeastern city

Built in 1934 to commemorate the great heroism of Thao Suranaree or "Ya Mo", a Thai heroine who is in the hearts of all Korat people. It is considered a monument honoring the good deeds of the country's first common heroine. King Nangklao graciously bestowed the title of "Thao Suranaree" on Khunying Mo. Because Ya Mo is a symbol of the Korat people, it is the origin of another name for Nakhon Ratchasima, "Ya Mo City".
