Wakamiya Hachiman Shrine is a historic shrine located in Sakae, Naka-ku, Nagoya, and is said to have the power to ward off evil and bring prosperity to business. It was founded in 1062 and is said to have been built by Minamoto no Yoriyoshi and Yoshiie to pray for victory in battle! Tokugawa Ieyasu also revered it as the guardian deity of Nagoya Castle, and it is loved by locals. The Wakamiya Festival, held every May, is a traditional event that colors Nagoya's spring with its gorgeous floats and warrior processions. The shrine grounds also include the Miwa Shrine, which is said to bring good luck in finding a partner, and is popular with female worshippers. It is also easily accessible, a 5-minute walk from Yabacho Station on the subway, and within walking distance of the Sakae area and Osu Shopping Street!
