My sister highly recommended Anping BBQ's 120-minute Japanese A4 Wagyu beef buffet, saying their upgraded menu left her amazed last time. First, let's talk about the ambiance. Although the Mong Kok branch has been open for a few years, the restaurant is well-maintained, clean, and tidy. The wooden tables and chairs paired with soft lighting create a warm and cozy atmosphere. Plus, the ventilation is excellent—you won't leave smelling like smoke after a night of grilling, which is a big bonus. The star of the show is, of course, the Wagyu beef. The marbling is beautifully distributed, not overly greasy, and the beef flavor is rich and intense. The thickness is just right, offering a perfect texture. I recommend ordering the sukiyaki-style beef, which comes with a small pot for dipping while grilling—this saves time and lets you enjoy more slices 😎. Another must-try is the beef tongue, one of their signature dishes. It’s served with a knife, fork, and hourglass for a touch of ceremony. After grilling, it has a slight charred aroma, a chewy yet tender texture, and pairs perfectly with lemon juice for a refreshing balance to the richness. Definitely a must-order. Besides beef, the buffet also offers pork and chicken options. The pork belly has a perfect fat-to-lean ratio, and when grilled to a crispy edge, it’s delightful wrapped in lettuce with kimchi. The chicken remains tender even after extended grilling and is especially flavorful with their signature golden sauce. Don’t miss the tiger chicken wings (I had several rounds)—the black pepper seasoning is bold and spicy, incredibly addictive. Even as someone who’s not a black pepper fan, I found this irresistible. The seafood selection is equally impressive, with high-quality options like abalone, oysters, dried red fish, scallops, king prawns, and white eel. The red fish is firm and flavorful, the abalone is tender and springy, the oysters are plump, the king prawns are fresh and large, and the unique black garlic olive oil seasoning adds a special touch. The white eel is thick and meaty, with a delicate and bouncy texture—another item worth multiple rounds. As for vegetables, every option is great, but the biggest surprise was the grilled corn! (We only discovered the vegetable area late in the meal, feeling like we missed out earlier.) Their corn is different from regular corn, lighter in color, cut into small pieces for easy grilling, and incredibly sweet and juicy without needing any extra seasoning. Finally, don’t leave without trying their signature dessert: peanut red bean taro balls with grilled grass jelly. It’s the perfect ending to a fantastic meal!
