Checking in at Drvengrad, Serbia!

Drvengrad, which translates to Wooden Village or Wooden Town in Chinese, is a traditional village created by the renowned Serbian film director Emir Kusturica. This place is practically tailor-made for him and is often referred to as his utopian retreat! As the name suggests, the village is primarily constructed using wood, including the various streets. However, as of May 2023, the village is undergoing renovations, and the wooden streets have been replaced with stone pavements. Drvengrad features a library, theater, sports hall, restaurants, cake shops, guest rooms, a swimming pool, and souvenir shops. The centerpiece of the village is the wooden St. Sava Church. The streets are named after individuals whom Kusturica respects or finds significant: Nikola Tesla, Ernesto 'Che' Guevara, Diego Maradona, Novak Djokovic, and Ivo Andrić, with the main street named after the latter. Visiting here gives you a sense of seclusion from the world, which is quite nice!
