Michoacán: Where History and Nature Collide

Michoacán left a deep impression on me—more than I expected. It’s one of those places that makes you stop and reflect, not just because of its beauty, but because of the weight of its history and the strength of its spirit. One of the most powerful moments of my trip was standing at the ruins of San Juan Parangaricutiro. The town was buried by lava when the Parícutin volcano erupted in the 1940s, and today, only parts of the church remain. Being there, surrounded by lava rocks and mist, with the tower still standing defiantly, was surreal. It felt like time had frozen. I couldn’t help but think about the people who once lived there—how they had to leave everything behind, yet still held onto hope. What amazed me even more was how nature has slowly started reclaiming the space. Moss-covered stones, plants growing through cracks in the ruins—it’s a quiet, powerful reminder that life goes on. That even in destruction, there’s beauty and rebirth. Michoacán is a place that speaks to you if you take the time to listen. It’s not flashy or crowded, but it holds stories that are deep and real. For anyone who loves history, dramatic landscapes, and a bit of mystery, this part of Mexico is a must.
