From the moment I stepped into this city, I was captivated by its multicultural blend and unique charm. My first stop was Maimun Palace, Medan's iconic landmark. Built in the late 19th century, this palace is renowned for its unique blend of Malay, Islamic, and Italian architectural styles. Strolling through the palace's magnificent halls, I felt as if I had traveled back to a glorious era, experiencing the weight of history and the fusion of cultures. The palace's interior design, a mix of various cultural elements, was a feast for the eyes. Next, I visited the Masjid Raya Al-Mashun, also known as the Medan Grand Mosque. One of Indonesia's most magnificent mosques, its exquisite architectural design features a dome adorned with distinctive Islamic patterns, both ornate and unique. Here, I experienced an atmosphere of tranquility and solemnity, appreciating the profoundness of Islamic culture. Beyond its historical and cultural sites, Medan's natural scenery is equally enchanting. I journeyed to Lake Toba, the world's largest volcanic lake. Its clear, azure waters are surrounded by picturesque landscapes and traditional Batak villages. Relaxing by the lake, enjoying water activities, or visiting the surrounding Batak villages allowed me to appreciate the magic and beauty of nature. For an adventurer like me, hiking up Mount Sibayak was an unforgettable experience. This active volcano stands over 2,000 meters tall, offering breathtaking views of Medan and the surrounding highlands from its summit. Although the climb was challenging, all my fatigue vanished when I reached the top and witnessed the sunrise. Of course, no trip to Medan is complete without savoring the local cuisine. I tried the tender Medan grilled chicken, the flavorful Medan fried rice with its rich ingredients, and the delicious Medan fish balls, all traditional dishes. In addition, Indonesian pancakes, Makaman cake, and other desserts left me wanting more. The local durian, in particular, was simply irresistible. During my time in Medan, I also experienced the local shopping and nightlife. Medan's shopping malls offer a diverse shopping experience, from local handicrafts to international brands.
