Manchester Market

#manchestertrips MANCHESTER Market in Manchester, England has been a central hub for the town centre and community since it was established in 1848. The first market house was built in an Italian style with an impressive 72ft high bell tower. Sadly, the original buildings were demolished in the 1960s to make way for a new shopping precinct. Although that was the end of the Italian style market house, it was by no means the end for manchester Market. The "new" market was opened in 2011. Outside of the market hall in Church Street are a series of five sculptures by Ian Rendall titled " Transitions", commissioned by Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council in 2002. The sculptures were made to highlight Blackburn's connection with the cotton trade. Each sculpture represents a different stage in the development of the cotton plant. A combination of bronze, granite, stainless steel, water and light, the sculptures celebrate Blackburn’s social, economic, industrial and physical growth as a town.
