The whole trip is by car. The three spots form a triangle, with less than a 30-minute drive between each. You'll walk just over 10,000 steps in a day, so it's not tiring at all. ⏰Timing: Arrive at Julong Cave before 9:00 AM for fewer crowds and better lighting. Spend about 40 minutes exploring. Head to the city center at noon to see the Wenta Pagoda and have lunch nearby. Spend 1.5 hours in the afternoon visiting the former residence, then relax by Jinyin Lake. 🚗Getting there: Driving is recommended. Start from Luoding city center, go to Pingtang Town first (about 20 minutes), return to the city center, and finally head to the former residence (about 25 minutes). The roads are good and parking is convenient. 📷Attraction highlights: 1️⃣ Julong Cave: Hidden at the foot of the karst peaks, the entrance is small, but the interior is a world of its own. Don't miss the Dragon Palace stone curtains, which look like hanging palace drapes, and the stalagmites that resemble a dragon throne. The boardwalk is flat and easy to walk on. Don't rush off after exiting the cave; right outside is the best viewing platform for the Pingtang karst peaks. The rice paddies and peaks look like a giant bonsai landscape—perfect for photos. 2️⃣ Luoding Wenta Pagoda: A Ming Dynasty brick pagoda. It stands out from a distance, and the brickwork is solid up close. Inside, there's a spiral staircase with windows on every level. I recommend climbing to the 3rd floor to see the bend in the Longjiang River, and the 6th floor for a bird's-eye view of the old town. The iron spire on top is said to weigh 7 tons—look up to appreciate the wisdom of ancient craftsmen. The banyan tree path around the pagoda is great for cooling off. Only a section of the old city wall remains nearby, where old bricks and tree roots are intertwined—it makes for very textured photos. 3️⃣ Former Residence of Cai Tingkai: The home of the famous anti-Japanese general. The architectural details are worth savoring, with the original gray and ceramic sculptures preserved. You can climb to the top of the watchtower in the backyard, where you can catch a glimpse of Jinyin Lake from the windows. There are many old photos and artifacts inside the residence, so take your time. Afterward, stop by Jinyin Lake on your way out. The water is clear, reflecting the mountains—sitting on a rock to rest is incredibly refreshing. 💡Tips: Expect large crowds during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day, so check opening hours in advance.
