Luoding City, formerly known as Longzhou and Longshui, is a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Guangdong Province, managed by Yunfu City, located in the western part of Guangdong Province, south of the Xijiang River. Luoding has historically been an important node on the ancient Silk Road and a strategic point in the Xijiang corridor, historically known as 'a giant gateway and a place of great importance for pacification and defense.' During the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty (1577), Luodingzhou was upgraded from Longshui County of Zhaoqing Prefecture to Luodingzhou, becoming the first directly-administered Zhou in the history of Lingnan. In the early 1990s, Luoding clearly proposed the slogan 'Facing the Delta, connecting the Great Southwest, and building Luoding City,' with the goal of 'three-dimensional transportation development by water, land, and air.' On March 20, 1991, construction of Luoding Airport began. On December 8, 1991, Luoding Airport was put into operation.
