Get ready for a climb: the wall is steep and rugged here, so sturdy shoes are a must! The tranquility here makes for an unforgettable walk, where crumbling watchtowers and endless views offer endless photo ops. Aim for sunrise or late afternoon for golden light and misty mountains—those iconic, insta-worthy moments are yours for the taking. Must-do: Stop at the General Tower for sweeping panoramas, and don’t miss the eastern ridge, where the unrestored wall and wild nature blend for hauntingly beautiful shots. Sit for a moment and soak it all in—this is the Great Wall at its rawest. Practical tips: Bring snacks and water—facilities are limited out on the wall. Admission is ¥62, and opening hours vary by season. From April to October, gates open as early as 4:00 AM, so you can beat the crowds (and the heat) if you arrive early.
