“The Dragon’s Green Staircase”

#chinatravel Longji Rice Terraces – Simple Summary The Longji Rice Terraces, also called the Dragon’s Backbone Rice Terraces, are a famous scenic area in Longsheng County, about 100 km from Guilin, China. These terraces were first built over 650 years ago during the Yuan Dynasty and expanded during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The rice terraces look like layers of green or golden ribbons winding up the steep hillsides, from the river valleys up to mountain tops over 1,000 meters high. The terraces are famous for their spectacular views in every season — flooded with mirror-like water in spring, lush green rice in summer, golden harvest in autumn, and sometimes frosted with snow in winter. The terraces are mainly home to the Zhuang and Yao ethnic minority groups, who still maintain their traditional wooden houses, colorful costumes, and farming methods. Visitors can hike between villages like Ping’an, Dazhai, and Jinkeng, enjoy panoramic viewpoints, and experience local culture and food.

Longji Rice Terraces

#chinatravel Alright so Long Ji Rice Terrace was straight up magical. I wasn't even planning to hike much but once I saw those endless layers of green just wrapping around the mountains I couldn’t stop walking. It feels like something out of a fantasy movie. Everywhere you look it’s just like wow how is this even real. I went early in the morning and the clouds were still hugging the hills so it looked super dreamy. The villages around there are tiny and cozy and the locals are chill. Some even invite you in for tea or food which was awesome. And shoutout to the grandma who let me try homemade rice wine. That stuff hits. The trails aren’t hard but bring comfy shoes because you’ll definitely wanna wander off and explore random little paths. If you're into nature or just want to see something totally different from city life this place is a must. Pics don't do it justice. Just go.
