Chinese Traditional Village-Meichao Ancient Village

Meichao Village is a natural village in Meixiang Administrative Village, Huangtong Town, Lingao County, Hainan Province. It is located next to the ancient post road leading from Haikou Prefecture to Lingao, Danzhou and Sanya. When Hu Quan, a famous official of the Southern Song Dynasty, was exiled to Jiyang Army, he passed by Maichou Village in Lingao and was inspired to write down the lines "Going north to Changsi Wenxi County, coming south I am afraid to enter Maichou Village. The road thousands of miles to the end of the world, the wild grass and smoke are just enough to break my soul." ("On the way to Lingao on the way to Zhuya, I passed by Maichou Village, which has never been written on horseback in ancient times") Since then, all ancient literati knew that there was a Maichou Village in Lingao, Hainan. Later, Tang Xianzu, a Ming Dynasty dramatist known as the "Shakespeare of the East", traveled to Hainan. When he arrived at Maichou Village via the ancient post road, he also composed a poem "Xuwen Sending a Yue Guest to Linggao and Sending Home Two Poems on Leishui", which goes like this: "The Pearl Cliff is like a granary with dusk in the morning, and the song of Da Lei is heartbreaking. But take Lu Zhu away and play the flute, and Maichou Village is Mochou Village." From then on, this ordinary little village far away in the world became a "regular guest" in the writings of literati and poets. According to the "Lingao County Chronicles", Maichou Village is now Meichao Village, Huangtong Town, Lingao County. On June 6, 2019, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People's Republic of China included Meichao Village in the fifth batch of China's traditional villages list.
