Lijiang Wangu Tower

Lijiang Wangu Tower is a symbolic building of Lijiang, located at the commanding height on Lion Mountain in Lijiang Ancient Town, adjacent to the Mu Family Mansion. Wangu Tower is a five-eaved, all-wood structure built on the mountaintop, standing 33 meters tall, symbolizing the 330,000 people of various ethnicities in the original Lijiang Autonomous County. The main body of the tower has 16 pillars, which are sky-reaching wooden columns, making it the first building in China's all-wood dougong architecture with a single pillar reaching the top. There are 12,600 dragon heads on the tower, signifying Lijiang as the beautiful homeland of the descendants of the dragon, and the number of dragons sets a world record. From the top of Wangu Tower, one can look north to the magical and beautiful Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, east to the ancient town of Lijiang with its small bridges and flowing waters, west to the colorful new city of Lijiang, and south to the picturesque countryside villages.
