Yukaryo Founder's Temple - Gandan Temple

Ganden Monastery: formerly translated as Ganden Monastery, Galdan Monastery, Galdan Monastery, etc., is located on the top of Wangbori Mountain at an altitude of 3,800 meters on the south bank of the Lhasa River in Dagze County, Lhasa City, Tibet Autonomous Region, China, 57 kilometers away from Lhasa. During the Yongzheng period of the Qing Dynasty, Emperor Shizong of the Qing Dynasty named the temple "Yongtai Temple". Origin of the name: The full name of the temple is “Zhuo Gandan Namba Jeweilin”, where “Zhuo” refers to Zhuoriwuqi Mountain, and “Ganden” is the transliteration of Tibetan, which means “Tushita Heaven”, which is the world taught by the future Buddha Maitreya, and “Namba Jeweilin” means the victorious temple, hence the name of the temple. The temple was planned and built in 1409 by Tsongkhapa, the founder of the Gelug school of Buddhism. The Tripa ("Tripa" means the Dharma seat or the abbot) of this monastery is called Ganden Tripa. The construction of Ganden Monastery marked that the Gelug sect had its fundamental temple and the Yellow Sect had been established on the basis of "religious reform". Ganden Monastery is the ancestral monastery of the Lu sect and is collectively known as the "Three Major Monasteries" of Lhasa along with Drepung Monastery and Sera Monastery.
