Shimeng Temple

Shiyu Temple is located on Mount Shiyu. Mount Shiyu is at the southern foot of Dongxiao Palace, and the mountain has stone peaks like a bowl, hence the name Mount Shiyu. Shiyu Temple was first built during the Tang Dynasty, founded by the Zen master Shusheng. By the Song Dynasty, it was rebuilt by Zen master Weizheng (968-1049), with a scale surpassing that of the previous era. Shiyu Temple is situated at the top of Mount Shiyu in Zijing Village, surrounded by mountains and rich vegetation, including many bitter bamboos. To the south of the temple is a valley, from the mountaintop one can look far into the distance, enjoying a broad view. Ascending to Shiyu Temple along the tranquil village path, with the steps beside the babbling brook, one can hear the sound of the Dingdong spring while climbing, offering a unique atmosphere. The Shiyu Temple, built during the Han Dynasty, is named after the mountain peak it sits on, which has a cave resembling a bowl. The temple is surrounded by lush bamboo, fresh air, and abundant mountain springs. Beside the temple stand peculiar rocks, with formations such as the Stone Fish Listening to Buddha, waterfalls, Stone Ox, Stone Elephant, Stone Turtle, White Dragon Cave, Green Dragon Cave, and Immortal's Cave, all looking lifelike. Many magical stories are circulated among the people, making it highly scenic.
