But the city was quieter than I thought, the people were kind, and the sunset along the Yellow River was beautiful… In that quiet city that I fell in love with, A 3-night, 4-day trip that included snow-capped mountains, rivers, grasslands, and deserts in northwestern China began! ⸻ 🗓️ Day 1 – City temperature, walking along the Yellow River 🛬 Arrive at Lanzhou Zhongchuan Airport → Move to the city (Didi about 1 hour) If you choose a hotel near the Yellow River, it will be perfect for a walking course. 🍜 Lunch – Matsuru Uyukmyeon Clear and rich broth, chewy noodles, honest meat (If you don't like coriander, be sure to say "不要香菜"!) 🌉 Afternoon – Yellow River Bridge + Riverside Walk If you walk along the quiet Yellow River, You can feel the atmosphere of the entire city. If you time it right for sunset, the reflection is really pretty. 🌃 Dinner – Night market & simple local meal Snacks similar to lamb skewers, tteokbokki, herbal tea, etc. If you sit around with locals, you'll definitely feel like you're on a trip. ⸻ 🗓️ Day 2 – Hillside view + alleyway sensibility ⛰️ Morning – Baektapsan Park or Bingheoru Hill A viewpoint where you can overlook the city at a glance On a clear day, it's so wide open that you can see the snowy mountains in the distance. 🕌 Afternoon – Stroll along Mosque Street & West Market A unique street where Chinese traditions and Muslim cultures are mixed If you sit down in a tea house in a quiet alley, The pace of the trip slows down a lot. 🍲 Dinner – Lamb hotpot or wheat pancake meal End the day with light and hearty local food! ⸻ 🗓️ Day 3 – Moving to Zhangye, on the way to the desert 🚄 Morning – Lanzhou → Zhangye (张掖) high-speed train (about 4 hours) The scenery along the way is also full of emotion. Wide grasslands, rocky mountains, and winding valleys pass by. 🏜️ Afternoon – Arrival at Danxiajidan Park or Zhangye Desert Area • Danxiajidan Park: Colorful Rainbow Mountains • Near Badanjilin: Desert Trekking + Camel Ride • Available Options: Camel, Sand Sledding, Quad Bike, Sunset Photo Zone 🌅 Evening – Watching the Sunset in the Desert No words needed. The endless desert without a single green leaf, and the red light covering it A moment when I really felt like I was ‘somewhere outside the Earth’. ⸻ 🗓️ Day 4 – Morning Desert + Return 📸 Early Morning – Desert Emotional Shot + Simple Walk In the morning when there are few people, the sounds and wind are all calm. Take pictures with silhouettes + shadows to emphasize the emotions 🚄 Afternoon - Zhangye → Return to Lanzhou or take the high-speed train to Tador You can also travel directly from Zhangye to other cities (Xining, Dunhuang, etc.) ⸻ ✅ Lanzhou + Desert Travel Tips • Advance reservations are required for high-speed trains (recommended to use Trip.com app) • Lanzhou has strong UV rays and is dry → Bring moisturizer + sunscreen • The desert has a large daily temperature range → Long-sleeved outerwear is required • You can negotiate on-site for camel experience, and most photos will be taken for you • In the desert, ankle-covering shoes or sneakers are required rather than slippers! ⸻ ✍️ One-line review Lanzhou was simple but strong, the desert was vast, and the China I saw while running between them was much deeper, freer, and more colorful than I thought.
