Wat Cham Thewi: Pay Homage to the Suwan Chang Kot Chedi

🙏 When Queen Cham Thewi, the first ruler of Hariphunchai, reached the age of 60, she abdicated the throne to her two sons. She then became a nun and practiced Dharma at Wat Cham Thewi. At the age of 92, she passed away. 🙏 Her sons, Mahantayot and Anantayot, held a grand cremation ceremony for her at this temple and built a chedi to enshrine her relics around 1298 AD. The chedi was named Suwan Chang Kot Chedi, which became a model for chedis in the Lanna region. 🛕 The chedi is square-shaped, resembling the Mahabodhi Temple in India. Each side features 15 standing Buddha statues in blessing posture, totaling 60 statues. The top of the chedi was originally covered in gold, but it later broke off, leading locals to call it 'Ku Kut.' 🛕 Additionally, within the temple grounds, there is the Rattan Chedi located to the right of the vihara. It was built by Phaya Saraprasit in the 17th Buddhist century. The base is octagonal with a diameter of 4.40 meters and a height of 11.50 meters.
