A Day of Art in Kyoto – Tradition Meets Creativity

#cityplaybook Kyoto is known for its temples and tea, but it’s also a city full of refined and inspiring art. From traditional culture to modern exhibitions, there’s so much to explore if you’re into the arts. One of my first stops was Gion Kōbu Kaburenjō, a historical theater in the heart of Gion. When not hosting geisha performances, it’s sometimes used as a venue for special art exhibitions—an unexpected blend of tradition and creativity. Then I headed to the Kyoto City Kyocera Museum of Art, a beautiful space with both classical and contemporary pieces. The architecture itself is worth the visit. Lastly, I crossed the river to Arashiyama to visit the Fukuda Art Museum. Nestled near the bamboo forest, this peaceful museum features stunning Japanese art, framed by views of nature.
