When you think of Fushimi Inari, the 'Thousand Torii Gates' come to mind. Seeing them in person reveals their beauty and grandeur. Have you seen them in a movie before? Yes! It was in the scene where the young protagonist runs through them in 'Memoirs of a Geisha'. A must-visit when in Kyoto. The shrine grounds are dotted with fox statues, each with unique appearances and expressions. The entire Inari mountain is considered sacred, and the 'Pilgrimage Tour' around various energy spots is very popular, attracting many visitors. Fushimi Inari Taisha is not far from Kyoto Station. You can take the JR Nara Line to Inari Station or the Keihan Main Line to Fushimi Inari Station. For buses, take the South 5 or Express 105 to Inari Taisha-mae. The most convenient and closest transportation is the JR Nara Line to JR Inari Station, where you can see the main torii gate of Fushimi Inari Taisha right at the exit. Since the shrine is located on Inari Mountain, the sun can be intense in spring and summer. Wear light clothing and make sure to use sunscreen. It's best to wear sneakers, and since there are no water fountains, bring your own water to stay hydrated. The best time to visit is usually from November to early December, during the autumn foliage season, when many events are also held.
