Kuching - Sri Aman trip

This trip had been long planned to visit a friend who was posted in Sarawak. We finally made it in her fourth year there. Our first stop was the Kuching Waterfront, where we enjoyed the scenic view while indulging in delicious gula apong ice cream. From there, we drove straight along the Pan Borneo Highway. The journey was smooth, and along the way, we visited the Simanggang Waterfront, where the annual Benak Festival is held. We attempted several times to catch a glimpse of the benak (tidal bore), but unfortunately, we missed it as it happened at night. Nevertheless, we were lucky—it was durian season! There were other seasonal fruits too, rambutan, langsat, rambai. We ended up having durian for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We tried the local durian called Issu and Pakan —definitely an experience to remember! Another highlight of our trip was visiting the Batang Ai Dam. About 1 hour drive from Sri Aman. There is no entrance fee. The view was breathtaking, with crystal-clear water and a brilliant blue sky—you can see it in the pictures. There’s also a boat operator offering cruises along the lake, making the experience even more memorable. Before leaving Sri Aman, we visited the local market (pasar tamu) and came across a variety of interesting items for sale. Some of the rare finds included ulat mulong (sago worms) and unique local fruits like dabai and asam payak. Dont forget to try the local dishes like laksa sarawak, mee kolok. And please stop by atany Mita bakeries near the airport and get their butter cheese cake for souviner. yums..😋 We'll definitely visit our friend again before she gets transferred back to Semenanjung.
