Kashgar Museum in Xinjiang: Echoes of History and Cultural Treasures

Kashgar in Xinjiang, an ancient and mysterious city, is a place where thousands of years of history have settled and multiple cultures have blended. At No. 19 Tawuguzi Road in the center of Kashgar stands a magnificent building—the Kashgar Museum. It serves as a treasury of time, housing the historical memories and cultural treasures of Kashgar and even Xinjiang. The museum covers an area of 8,580 square meters, with a building area of 2,360 square meters. The building faces east with its back to the west, and its reinforced concrete structure appears solid and dignified. As I step into this building, the first thing I feel is a profound sense of history. In the spacious and bright hall, soft lighting shines on each exhibit, as if telling the stories behind them. The main exhibition hall is the essence of the museum, with a practical area of 850 square meters. It displays various cultural relics unearthed from the Kashgar region, from stone and pottery artifacts of ancient times, to jade and gold and silver items of the medieval period, to ethnic costumes and handicrafts of the modern era. Each piece exudes a rich historical atmosphere. Standing in front of these relics, it feels as if I can travel through time and experience the millennia of Kashgar's history. Although the museum's storeroom is only 160 square meters, it contains more than 5,300 sets of relics, including 63 sets of precious items. These relics are the treasures of Kashgar's and even Xinjiang's historical culture, and they are also the pride of the museum. They lie quietly in the storeroom, waiting for the day when they can show their charm to the world. In one corner of the museum, there is also an eye-catching butterfly wall. This wall is covered with colorful butterfly specimens, and the mottled colors give a dreamlike feeling. These butterflies are rare species from the Xinjiang region, and their presence not only showcases Xinjiang's rich biodiversity but also encourages people to cherish and protect the natural environment.
