Fethiye Cliff Tombs

As the name suggests, the cliff tombs of Fethiye are directly carved on the cliff, and the stone coffins are hoisted and placed in the cave, but why the coffins are suspended on the cliff is still an unsolved mystery. These cliff tombs were mostly built more than 400 years BC, after more than 2400 years of wind and frost, these stone coffins are still firm and upright, staring at the ancient city below. For the protection of cultural relics, most of these stone coffins cannot be approached, only the Tomb of Amyntas can be climbed up along the stone steps in front. Amyntas was a Greek king, this tomb built in 350 BC (Figure 4) is completely carved on the cliff, the appearance is a completely rock-carved Ionian temple, two huge stone pillars that are integrated with the rock wall support the elegant temple-style facade, majestic and spectacular, the mottled wall surface especially shows the precipitation of time, the traces of vicissitudes. Fethiye Cliff Tombs give people a solemn and solemn sense of historical heaviness, and also let us see the clever wisdom of human beings in architectural engineering more than 2400 years ago.
