Chasing Sakura at Tanjo-ji Temple Chiba

#cherryblossom25 🌸 Coming later this month: The early-blooming Kawazu Cherry Blossoms of southern Chiba! *All photos taken February 20, 2024* You may have recently seen the sakura forecasts which predict late-March as the best time to see cherry blossoms around Tokyo. What you won’t see in those official predictions though are the peaks of early-blooming varieties of sakura, including the bright pink Kawazu cherry blossoms of Chiba. Kawazu cherry trees tend to bloom earliest on the southern end of the Chiba peninsula, and these are two spots we checked out last February that we'd like to recommend to you. Please keep in mind, these spots are a bit off the beaten path, so we'd recommend visiting them by car. 🌸 About: While only a pair of Kawazu cherry trees stand beside the main hall of Tanjo-ji Temple, it still makes for one of our favorite hidden gem spring spots. This is due to its laid back seaside location and deep historic significance connected to the birth of Holy Priest Nichiren, the founder of Nichiren Buddhism.
