[Kanagawa Prefecture/Shirahata Shrine] The site that was once the grave of Yoritomo

It is enshrined in front of Hokkedo, the grave of Minamoto no Yoritomo. It was a private Buddhist hall where a small Kannon statue, which is said to have been placed in Yoritomo's topknot and taken to battle, was enshrined. After Yoritomo died, he was buried here and it was called Hokkedo, and it is said that the shogun would visit it every year on January 13th, the anniversary of his death. After the Meiji Restoration, the Hokkedo temple was renamed Shirahata Shrine, and it became the shrine it is today. It is deserted and the shrine building is closed, but it is opened during New Year's, when amulets and red seals are distributed.
