“Heong Kee’s Legendary Beggar’s Chicken – A Clay-Baked Masterpiece”

#favouriteitinerary Heong Kee Restaurant, located in Ulu Kelang, Kuala Lumpur, is renowned for its signature Beggar’s Chicken—a traditional Chinese delicacy with a rich history. This dish involves marinating a whole chicken in a blend of soy sauce, various herbs, spices, and Shaoxing rice wine, then wrapping it in layers of banana leaves and clay before slow-cooking it for several hours. The result is an exceptionally tender and flavorful chicken infused with aromatic herbs. I must mention that the chicken is really very tender to bite - loving it. Due to the intricate preparation process, which requires baking the dish for approximately 8 hours, patrons are advised to book at least one day in advance. The restaurant also offers other specialties, such as Fried Bean Curd (also my personal favorite), Beggar’s Duck, Winter Melon Soup, and Oyster Rice, all prepared using traditional methods.
