In 1910, the Yunnan-Vietnam Railway was fully operational, and Kaiyuan—then known as Ami State—began to prosper, becoming an important transportation hub heading north to Kunming and south to Haiphong. Ami State was subsequently renamed Kaiyuan, meaning 'extending in all directions, connecting far and wide,' and it became known as 'the city brought by the train'. For 113 years, the 59-kilometer-long Kaiyuan section of the Yunnan-Vietnam Railway has experienced both glory and decline, holding an extraordinary place in the memories of the people of Kaiyuan. In 2018, Kaiyuan's little train transformed into an urban rail transit train, traveling from Kaiyuan to Datun, and this secret hidden by time was once again unveiled.
