It was originally purchased by a British couple and opened to the public as a hotel. In 2015, it was taken over by Marriott and changed its name. As a witness to the Cairo Declaration in 1943 and Egypt's recovery of sovereignty over the Sinai Peninsula from Israel in 1978, my expectations for travel were already high.
