A visit to one of the oldest jail in Malaysia

A new creative and heritage attraction opens in Johor Bahru, the Kota Jail, which was formerly the Johor Bahru Prison or the Ayer Molek Prison. This prison is the third oldest in Malaysia and was constructed back in 1883 and was designed by Sultan Ibrahim of Johor himself and housed up to 200 inmates but increased to 1500 over time. Today, we can visit the former jail, one block is opened, showcasing the jail cell, common bath area, and paraphernalia that was used during the jail time for canning and also inmates' outfit and items confiscated from inmates. There are event areas open for bookings and also two cafes at the time of my visit. Entrance is RM5 for Malaysians and RM10 for foreigners.
