Hongjialou Cathedral in Jinan

The Hongjialou Cathedral (Hongjialou Cathedral), officially known as the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus at Hongjialou, is commonly referred to as Honglou Church, named after the village of Hongjialou. The Hongjialou Cathedral was funded by the indemnity of the Boxer Protocol in the 26th year of Guangxu (1900), designed by Austrian Friar Alphonse Pallhuber, and built by Chinese laborers. Construction began in the 27th year of Guangxu (1901) and, after more than 3 years, was completed in May of the 31st year of Guangxu (1905). The building faces east to west, with a facade in the classic Gothic architectural style, and a floor plan in the shape of a 'cross', symbolizing the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The building covers an area of about 2600 square meters, and the church hall can accommodate a thousand people for religious activities. At the time of its completion, the Hongjialou Cathedral was the largest Catholic church in Jinan and in North China, occupying an important position in modern Chinese religious architecture. In May 2006, it was listed by the State Council as the sixth batch of national key cultural relics protection units. I really like the tranquil feeling of the church, the sunlight piercing through the stained glass windows, casting colorful colors onto the walls, it's really beautiful. The dome is so high, it's hard to see clearly . The church opens at two in the afternoon, and there's a Jinan auntie who tells the story of Jesus. I wanted to listen, but the dialect was too hard to understand . I didn't expect Jinan to have such a historically significant church, nor did I expect so many tourists to visit
