However, this church was built using the Gengzi indemnity from the Treaty of Xinchou in the 26th year of Guangxu (1900). It was designed by the Austrian monk Pang Huixiang and built by Chinese laborers. A history of humiliation. Now the invaders are gone, but their beliefs remain forever. There are many buildings left by the great powers in the old city of Jinan, similar to the Five Avenues in Tianjin. When you come to Jinan again, you must go and take a look around. The sky is overcast and hazy, but it still cannot block the beauty of the cathedral! Tips: Jinan opens port With the opening of the Jiaoji Railway in 1904, Jinan became the first city in China's modern history to proactively open a port. Jinan's self-opening was different from the previous forced port openings in Qingdao, Yantai and other places. It has independent sovereignty in construction, judicial and other aspects, and it is clearly stipulated that matters involving postal services, telegraphs and telephones are all handled by Chinese people. Even so, the opening of Jinan as a port was still a helpless move, but objectively it brought earth-shaking changes to Jinan. Various commercial ports, banks, churches, railways, hospitals, schools and other institutions gathered in Jinan and became the economic center of Shandong at that time.
