Xu Xiake's Former Residence Xu Xiake (1587-1641), whose given name was Hongzuo, was a famous traveler and geographer in the Ming Dynasty. He was fond of reading and geography since childhood. At the age of 15, he failed the imperial examination. After his father died, he stayed at home to farm and take care of his mother. In 1608, 21-year-old Xu Xiake set off from Shengshui Bridge in Mazhen Town. He spent his whole life traveling and exploring, and visited most of China. Xu Xiake's travel notes became a classic.
