Exploring Nagoya: Must-Visit Spots

Nagoya offers two must-visit locations: Osu Shopping Street and Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens. Be prepared for the vastness of Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens, as it is much larger than expected. Unlike the compact Ueno Zoo, this place requires a half-day of walking. The main garden resembles a mini Singapore Zoo, and while the botanical garden is impressive, the uphill and downhill paths can be exhausting. However, the lack of crowds makes it a pleasant experience. The northern garden seems to be the older section, with outdated concepts and architecture. Afterward, I visited Osu Shopping Street. Although I was tired, I couldn't resist exploring. The main street has little to offer besides a shrine and a Noh theater. Interestingly, I witnessed sumo wrestlers performing a mochi-pounding ceremony in front of the shrine, likely a pre-match blessing ritual. The side streets are filled with second-hand shops, especially around Akamon Street, offering a treasure trove of card games, models, figurines, and manga. This area is a paradise for collectors, with numerous second-hand card shops concentrated in one place.
