Osaka Kizu Market Seafood Rice was a huge disappointment!

Before leaving for Osaka this time, I made a lot of recommendations for sushi and paella. Osaka Shinkizu Market was recommended as being super delicious and super cost-effective, and it was 130 blocks ahead of Kuromon Market, so I had high expectations. The most famous fish market restaurant is said to have a queue of 1-2 hours, so we set off before six in the morning. The early morning sunlight of Dotonbori shines on the deserted streets, forming a sharp contrast with the usual bustling scene. I thought that since there was no one in Dotonbori, there shouldn’t be anyone lining up when we go to Kizu to eat paella, right? It’s one subway stop away and takes fifteen minutes to arrive. The big sign of Mujin Market is particularly eye-catching, but what is even more eye-catching than the sign is the fish market restaurant with people queuing up in front of the door. Dotonbori hasn't even opened yet, but the fish market restaurant is already packed with people! After entering the queue, the waiter gave us the menu in advance and we ordered a signature seafood dish and a three-color rice with tuna, sea urchin and salmon roe. The queue progress is much slower than expected! I went for a walk around Kizu first. The lively atmosphere of the seafood market was indeed exciting. Raw fish were sold everywhere. The prices of some of them were indeed much lower than outside, but there were also expensive ones, such as tuna toro and Hokkaido sea urchin. After all, you get what you pay for. The sashimi at 1,000 yen per portion should be the most cost-effective. We went back to the queue and waited for another hour (more than an hour and a half in total), and finally it was our turn to go in. The store is very small and can only accommodate about 10 people. The notice inside the store also encourages everyone to post pictures of their meals, tweets and Instagram. Given the capacity and long queues, it is definitely hunger marketing. Whether something is good or not is the key. Since we ordered in advance, the two paellas arrived quickly. The overflowing golden sea urchin, the pink tuna fat, and the crystal clear salmon roe really make people look very appetizing. Even just taking pictures is enough to stimulate the taste buds. How does it taste? We couldn't wait to take a bite of the sea urchin. It was slightly sweet and not fishy at all (to be honest, it was okay, but it was still far from the tora-jo we had in Tsukiji before. The sea urchin tasted good, but it was definitely not extremely delicious and worthy of praise). I thought sea urchin was an appetizer to whet my taste buds, but it turned out to be the ceiling! ! The remaining salmon roe was really ordinary, fresh and salty but not outstanding. The most disappointing thing was the signature tuna which was fatty and looked good but not tasty. It had no freshness at all when I put it in my mouth, let alone the aftertaste. It didn't feel like I was eating fish, but like eating unsalted pork fat, with a dense texture but without any seafood taste. I was shocked and regretful when I ate it! Considering the time spent in queuing and the energy cost of getting up early, it’s really a huge loss! It can be said that these were the worst meals on this trip! A total IQ tax! I would rather pay a higher price to eat delicious food. #Osaka #OsakaTravel #OsakaFood
