Uluwatu Sunset Cliff Monkey Dance

On October 16, 2024, under clear skies, I visited the famous Uluwatu in Bali, the only attraction I checked out during this laid-back Bali trip because it wasn't too far. The sunset was indeed beautiful, with cliffs, temples, and crashing waves. Along the cliff path, there were many aggressive monkeys. I witnessed one snatch a pair of sunglasses off someone's head. The person tried to retrieve them, but the monkey bared its teeth and even put the sunglasses on. There were other sunglasses hanging in the nearby bushes, so really, don't wear sunglasses on your head. At 6 PM, there was a Kecak Dance performance with the cliff and sunset as the backdrop. It's a historical performance, and even if you don't understand the story, it's quite an interesting experience. The kids enjoyed it too. I later looked it up on Wikipedia and learned that the story is about the battle of the Ramayana, where the monkey-like Vanaras, led by Hanuman, help Prince Rama fight the evil King Ravana. There's another performance at 7 PM, but without the sunset backdrop. You can queue up early to buy tickets on-site or purchase them online in advance.
