The 32-meter golden statue stands majestically on a hill, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the entire Nubra Valley. It's important to note this has a separate entrance from Diskit Monastery (located about 1km away), though you can clearly see the monastery from the Buddha's vantage point. When we visited in late April, the conditions were intense - super windy and bitterly cold, making the climb up to the statue feel like an Arctic expedition. But the effort was absolutely worth it. Standing at the base of this towering golden Buddha, with the entire valley spread out below, was humbling. The statue's serene expression contrasts beautifully with the rugged mountain backdrop. Access to the Buddha statue area is free. Just be prepared for the elements - that hilltop wind howls relentlessly. Pro tip: Visit early morning when winds are calmer, and hold onto your hat! The combination of spiritual grandeur and raw natural beauty here is unmatched.
