Xuankong Temple of Hengshan Mountain, the North Great Mountain｜Ancient Wisdom Revealed in Steepness

🚗Xuankong Temple was first built in the fifteenth year of Taihe in the Northern Wei Dynasty (491 AD). It has been renovated throughout the dynasties. During the Jin and Yuan Dynasties, the South Tower, North Tower, and the hanging棧bridge had roughly formed the current spatial pattern. The Xuankong Temple during the Republic of China period is basically the same as what we see today, and the existing buildings were mainly built during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The gate of Xuankong Temple faces south, with the west as the main direction. It is a wooden frame structure with a multi-level horizontal layout in a north-south direction. The overall layout is "one courtyard, two towers". The south end is a hanging temple, and the north side is two hanging towers. The hanging temple includes the Daxiong Hall, Taiyi Hall, Guandi Hall, Bell Tower, Drum Tower, Songzi Guanyin Hall, and Galan Hall. The South Tower has Chunyang Palace, Sanguan Hall, and Leiyin Hall. The North Tower has Sanjiao Hall, Sifang Hall, and Sansheng Hall. 🚗The Xuankong Temple scenic area and its surrounding areas boast intangible cultural heritages such as Hengshan mountain worship, the North Great Mountain god worship culture, folk belief social activities and worship, folk tales, and folk songs, such as the folk tale - the mystery of the hanging of Xuankong Temple. Xuankong Temple is one of the earliest and best-preserved high-altitude wooden cliff-side buildings in China and is the first scenic spot among the eighteen scenic spots of Hengshan Mountain. Xuankong Temple was praised as "magnificent" by the great Tang Dynasty poet Li Bai and marveled as a "great spectacle of the world" by the great Ming Dynasty traveler Xu Xiake. In February 1982, it was listed as a national key cultural relic protection unit.
