Hongjuseong Fortress

Much of the area was destroyed during the Japanese Colonial period including the administrative houses and much of the wall. Currently, they are trying to move an elementary school and government offices out of the area to complete the fortress and turn it into a tourist destination. Many historical events have taken place here. It withstood the Japanese Invasion of 1592, the rebellion of Yi Mong-hak, the Donghak peasant uprising, and martyrdom of Catholics during the great Catholic persecution of 1866 - 1871. In 2024, I wish to visit this beautiful place again. #2024wish
