Hongjuseong Fortress

Originally, Hongseong - then named Hongju - was a walled city with a stone wall covering 1,772 meters. 810 meters of wall still remain along with only one of the city gates (Joyangmun). It is said that the spring inside the fortress never runs dry throughout the four seasons. Records are incomplete, but there is evidence that construction may have started in the late-Shilla period. Hongju Fortress was restored during the reign of King Sejong the Great about 600 years ago. In 2024, I wish to visit this beautiful place again. #2024wish
