The first of China's Nine Dragon Walls~ Datong Nine Dragon Wall

The Nine Dragon Wall, located on Dong Street in the urban area of Datong City, Shanxi Province, was built in the 25th year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1392), with a length of 45.5 meters, a height of 8 meters, and a thickness of 2.02 meters. It is the earliest, tallest, and largest of the three existing Nine Dragon Walls in our country, and can be called the first of China's Nine Dragon Walls. In 2001, it was announced by the State Council as the fifth batch of national key cultural relics protection units. The Nine Dragon Wall was originally the screen wall in front of the mansion of Zhu Gui, the thirteenth son of Ming Taizu Zhu Yuanzhang. It is said that one day after it was built, two thunders flew towards the Nine Dragon Wall, and two deep springs appeared in Jinbo Cang Lane not far behind the Dragon Wall. The prince then ordered the water pit to be repaired into a reflection pool. It is said that the water of the two wells is sweet and bitter. The sweet water well can be used for human consumption, and the bitter water well can cure diseases. At the end of the Ming Dynasty, the mansion was hit by a big fire, and only the glazed Nine Dragon Wall survived. This wall is mainly made of materials such as glaze, color painting, and brick carving. The architectural structure is all made up of yellow, green, blue, and other colored glazed components. The wall is composed of three parts: the bottom is the Xumi seat, the middle is the wall body, and the top is the wall top.
