The citadel served as the political, military, and cultural center of Vietnam and was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2009. Inside, ancient wooden structures, brick walls, and various artifacts and relics are preserved. The 11th-century stone mirror reliefs and relics related to royal authority are particularly noteworthy. Outside the citadel, defensive walls, gates, and military relics are lined up, providing a valuable insight into the traditional military defense system of the past.
