Not just ordinary roadside flowers, but thousand-year-old trees with trunks twisting like calligraphy strokes, moss and time carving their own silent stories. I first learned about them years ago, wandering through Fulong Temple and Erwang Temple, where these living treasures stood in quiet dignity. Since then, I’ve always imagined the scene: crape myrtles heavy with blossoms, stretching against green-tiled roofs and red walls, like a painting come alive. This summer, I finally decided to see them with my own eyes. That morning, I left Chengdu early, took the train to Lidui Park Station, and walked into the scenic area under a light drizzle. The misty light felt like a soft filter from an ancient scroll, making the blossoms even more ethereal. Though this year was said to be a “smaller bloom,” when I stood beneath the pink-purple clusters, weighed down by rain like floating clouds resting against temple walls, I felt truly fortunate.
