Artistic generalist Liu Jipiao, a hero of a great era

Come to the China International Design Museum to see Liu Jipiao’s design art exhibition. Liu Jipiao is a member of the first generation of Chinese artists studying in France in the 1920s. He is a generalist in the fields of art, design, and architecture, and is known as the "Raphael of the East." Art education in France was born in 1648 with the establishment of the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture. It was first carried out in the Louvre, and later by Felix. Dipont is in a building built on the site of the French Monuments Museum. In the 20th century, the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris was the best art academy in the world. Although the Paris Ecole des Beaux-Arts rejected avant-garde art such as Dadaism, Surrealism and Abstractionism, it was friendly to Impressionism, Fauvism and Cubism. The faculty and students of the Academy also promoted decorative arts, aiming to find a new classical art form for France, apply it to all art fields and radiate it throughout the world. At the 1925 Exposition of Decorative Arts and Modern Industry, Liu Jipiao designed the China Pavilion based on the traditional Chinese pattern of "dragon, phoenix and rising sun", and made a rudimentary design translation of the traditional dragon and phoenix pattern and Chinese characters. In 1927, Liu Jipiao and Lin Fengmian planned to build the National Academy of Arts and converted Luoyuan, a private garden villa on the southern foot of Gushan Mountain, into a campus. In 1928, Liu Jipiao served as the director of the Pattern Department of the National Academy of Arts. He absorbed the broad concept of "decoration" in French modern design in the early 20th century. Within a year and a half, he led the design education of Gome and made a strong voice for Chinese modern design.
