Guadalest sits on a rock more than 500 metres above sea level, overlooking the reservoir that supplies water to the La Marina Baixa region.

Spanish Mediterranean Coast Tour ~ Alicante (Region) Guadalest is located in the corridor between the Sierra de Aitana and the Sierra de Sauta. It is of Muslim origin and has preserved an old town with historical and artistic buildings. Worth a visit is Castelo de San José, an 11th-century Muslim fortress accessible through a natural tunnel in the rock. You can see some amazing views from there. Only one tower remains of the 11th-century La Alcozaina Castle. The town contains the Ntra Parish Church. Sla. de la Asunción, 18th century; a 12th-century prison in the basement of the town hall; and six unique museums: Bethlehem and the Dollhouse, Instruments of Torture, the Miniature Museum, the Ethnology Museum, the Miniature Giants Museum, and the Casa Orduña Municipal Museum (one of the city’s ancestral houses).
