A monumental city

Spanish Mediterranean Coast Tour ~ Alicante (Region) Vienne is a monumental city and the capital of the region. The Castle of Atalaia forms the threshold of the walled city of Castile. In fact, it wasn't until the second half of the 19th century that Vila Duca officially became part of the province of Alicante. The fortress sits on the Almohad vaults, from where we can enjoy a wide panoramic view of the village and its surroundings. The historic center of the city is formed around the castle. As we descended from the castle, we spotted two beautiful Gothic churches among the narrow streets and white houses that make up the historic quarter: the 15th-century Iglesia de Santiago and the 16th-century Iglesia de Santa María. In the building that houses the Town Hall we must visit the Municipal Archaeological Museum, where we can admire the beauty of precious metalwork from the Late Bronze Age that made us the famous Treasure of Vienne. On the outskirts of the city, the Gothic sanctuary of Nuestra Señora de Virtudes and the Las Salinas Natural Park offer the perfect setting for enjoying a beautiful natural environment. #JanuaryDestinations2025 #SpainTravel #Valencia
