Andalusian Tour ~ Granada In Muslim countries the term "madrassa" refers to a school where Islamic legal and religious sciences are studied. One in Granada is located here, built in the mid-14th century next to the mosque. This use continues to this day, as it is now home to the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Granada. Therefore, it is not a museum and cannot be visited freely. The only part of the original building that remains is a huge prayer hall, part of which can be seen shortly after entering through the main gate. The marvelous decoration hints at the grandeur of the original architecture. The window crowns atop the wooden dome are very elegant and the mihrab surrounded by muqarnas and arabesques is mesmerizing.
