⛰️ Yamdrok Lake, meaning "Jasper Lake" in Tibetan, is located in Gonggar County and Langkazi County, Shannan City, Tibet Autonomous Region, next to the Yamdrok Lake Scenic Area on Provincial Road 307. It is one of the three holy lakes in Tibet, along with Namtso and Manasarovar, situated between 90.08—91.45 degrees east longitude and 28.27—29.12 degrees north latitude. Yamdrok Lake was formed about a hundred million years ago when glacial debris flows blocked a river channel. It is the largest enclosed inland lake in the southern Tibetan Plateau, covering an area of 638 square kilometers. The lake surface is at an altitude of 4,441 meters, with an average depth of approximately 23.6 meters and a water storage capacity of about 16 cubic kilometers. The shoreline stretches for 250 kilometers, the drainage area spans 6,100 square kilometers, and the lake holds approximately 16 billion cubic meters of water. 🌈 Known as one of the three great heavenly lakes of Tibet, along with Namtso and Manasarovar, Yamdrok is surrounded by snow-capped mountains and icy peaks that never melt, the highest reaching over 7,000 meters above sea level.
