Located in Yochon-dong, Gimje City, it belongs to the Jeonju Diocese of the Catholic Church. It was promoted to Gimje Parish on June 16, 1935, after being separated from Suryu Cathedral. In 1954, the land in Yochon-dong, the current site of the cathedral, was purchased, and in 1956, the cathedral was relocated from Geomsan-dong to Yochon-dong and newly built. On January 26, 1985, when Sinpung Cathedral was separated and newly established from Gimje Parish, Gimje Parish was renamed Yochon Cathedral.
